Quito Ecuador, a Stepping Stone to the Galapagos Islands

We flew into Quito, Ecuador, located in the northwestern corner of South America. We were en route to the Galapagos Islands which belong to Ecuador.

The name Ecuador, says something very special about the country. It sits squarely on the Equator. So it is divided by the Equator running east-west, then in addition, it is divided by the Andes mountains which run north-south.

Quito, the capital city,  is perched at an elevation just below the 10,000 foot mark. Because of its elevation, it's surprisingly, large and modern. But then, more expectantly, outside the urban area, its immediately  wild and untamed.

While in Quito, we had the wonderful opportunity to meet some kids from an orphanage in a village nearby. In exchange, we donated some necessities such as running shoes, fungal cream, and some school supplies.

All in all, even though we aren't city people, we did appreciate the uniqueness of Quito, Ecuador, and it was our stepping stone to the Galapagos Islands.
